Pro Bono

We are strongly committed to access to justice in the employment law area. As a leading employment relations firm one of the ways that we promote access to justice is through our pro bono programme. Our pro bono programme is available to both employers and employees and it means that we are able to assist people who would otherwise not have the ability to obtain justice.

Cases accepted on a pro bono basis are at no cost, or at a substantially reduced cost. We will consider cases at all levels, including: informal negotiations, mediation, Employment Relations Authority cases, and appeals to the Employment Court.

Some of the things we consider, in assessing whether or not we can assist on a pro bono basis, include:
  • Your financial situation.
  • The seriousness and nature of the case. For example, serious bullying or sexual harassment, or the victimisation of someone from an already marginalised group (former prisoners, religious minorities, new migrants etc).
  • Whether the case relates to an important or interesting legal issue. By way of example, at the moment we have a particular interest in racial and religious discrimination, issues relating to 90 day trial periods, and employee contributory conduct in personal grievance claims.
  • The profile of the case.
  • The  contribution that you make to the community. For example, a low decile school, with limited resources, facing a claim from an employee could be a good fit for our programme.
  • Our workload, including other pro bono cases that we may be involved in.

Applications and inquiries are welcome at any time but they can only be made by email. To apply please email details to us. Please note that we reserve the right to reject any case without giving a reason.
